FAQs

As an undergraduate student at the University of Cincinnati, I painfully watched breast cancer consume my mother’s life—the greatest challenge I have ever endured. These dreadful experiences along with the patient and family advocacy provided by the nursing staff fueled my desire to excel in the nursing profession, understand cancers associated with women’s health, and improve health care for all women.

In 2012, I earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing science (BSN) from Cleveland State University. Shortly, after graduation, I landed my first job at Cleveland Clinic where I worked as a medical-surgical nurse and an Obstetrics/Gynecology (OB/GYN) nurse. While working at Cleveland Clinic, I was a part-time student preparing to become a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP). In 2015, I graduated from Kent State University with a master’s degree in Nursing Science (MSN).

In August 2015, I started my military career in the United States Air Force (USAF). I worked as a WHNP at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base for three years. I managed patient care for well-women and problem-focused visits, as well as provided routine care to low-risk, obstetric and postpartum patients. Also, I supported the healthcare delivery of 27K beneficiaries, and $5.4M annual OB/GYN care. In 2017, I was selected by the USAF to receive funding for a doctorate.  In 2020, earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice Degree (DNP) from The Ohio State University in May 2020.

Proverbs 3:5

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight”.

Earn a PhD in Nursing Science program at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences

Throughout my DNP program, I collaborated with Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) prepared nurses who solidified my interest in nursing research. I have watched these nurse scientists make research the foundation of their clinical practice and positively impact clinical inquiry in the next generation of nurses. I want to follow in these nurse scientists’ footsteps, familiarize myself with the extant literature, and embed myself in the research community. I believe the PhD program will improve my skills to efficiently review, critically appraise, and synthesize the literature. In addition, the PhD program will teach me how to generate new knowledge, author scholarly articles, participate in research, and write grants.

I will be a nurse scientist and scholarly writer. I plan to apply for grants, and become a faculty member teaching at the master’s and doctorate levels for the Air Force and empowering nurses to become researchers and evidence-based clinical experts.

My faith allowed me to trust the process and believe that God would not allow me to fail. I trust the word of God. I relied on scriptures, and my friends and family. Also, I read my bible, prayed frequently,  went to church, and surround myself by positive God-fearing people.
